The Inter-relationship between the Environment and Development

The environment is the vital life support system of our planet and our region. We stress that integration of local communities and other stakeholders in environmental conservation is a pre-condition for sound social and economic development of the rural poor, given the serious problems with water scarcity and quality, desertification, climate change, and deterioration of biodiversity, the local communities has been neglecting these problems in their development activities which eventually contribute to the undermining of the natural resource base for development (agriculture, tourism, fisheries, drinking water supply)aggravate, social and health problems, deepen inequality, add to poverty and lead to new conflicts within and between societies in rural Tanzania.

It is from this point I decided to establish this blog so that we can share experience and ideas towards attainment of the solutions to the earlier mentioned problems and cultivate better livelihoods in rural areas in the country. I believe on participatory approach to be the greatest instrument on fighting against the problems mentioned (water scarcity and quality, desertification, climate change and deterioration of biodiversity), and it is believed to be the best method for boosting rural livelihoods.
